On Friday, Sam, Campbell and I took our first trip on a bus! (Well, I’ve been on a bus before, but they haven’t. They’re sheltered.) As part of our new behavior chart, Sam gets to pick a fun goal to work towards. Once he gets 10 smiley faces, he gets his goal. This last time, he chose a bus ride. We all had a really fun time!
The bus driver was really nice, and was very patient when Sam put $1.80 worth of change in the coin acceptor one coin at a time. And when we got off, she gave us very explicit instructions for how to catch the return bus (I guess she could tell we weren’t regulars).
Campbell actually HATED the bus ride. She was so freaked out for the first 10 minutes, and then I finally calmed her down by laying her against my chest. She stayed like that for the rest of the bus ride. But she did much better on the way back.
We took the bus to Ballston and had lunch at Potbelly (or as Sam calls it Belly Pot).
Then we hopped back on the bus to go home. Sam was really excited about the return trip–from his point of view, he got two bus rides for the price of one! Funny story–I had been sitting next to Sam, then I moved across the aisle to take this picture. Sam told me to stay over there! I guess he was really feeling like a big, independent, city boy!
Belly Pot – great name – and what a fabulous choice sam!!
Who needs Sesame Place when you’ve got city buses? Pretty great.
I love the idea of riding the bus for fun…did Sam come up with that idea by himself?
