Yesterday as we were driving in the car, Sam started hitting the back of his seat with a newly acquired pinwheel. This sent Campbell into hysterics for some reason, so I had to pull over and get it on video. I apologize for the video quality. You are watching the two of them through the mirror because I was trying to film from the driver’s seat.
Oh, and it is nearly impossible to take a video of Sam without him asking 100 times if he can see the video, so that’s what that’s all about.

Ok. I’ll be the first to admit that there isn’t a lot going on in this video. But I realized that I didn’t include any video clips in Campbell’s 5 month post, and I thought some of you that live far away might want to see Campbell in action.
The other week we took the kids to the pool. It was the first time the naps aligned so that both kids were awake! I didn’t have any swim diapers for Campbell, so she borrowed some 12 month swim shorts from Sam that had a built in diaper. It was a pretty awesome look. I can’t wait to take these two to the pool more often!

Campbell is 5 months old already! I think I say this every time, but time is really flying by the second time around! This is such a fun age. She is still a baby but very interactive. It is hard to picture our little family without her! We love you, Campbell!
Stats:
Height and Weight are unknown but she still has some little rolls on her legs and arms and a big fat belly. And she still seems long to me. We’ll get the exact measurements in a month at her 6 month check up.
Campbell is flirting with the idea of sitting up. She’s got some great core muscles and will pull her self up to sitting if she is on an incline (like in her bath or bouncy chair) and she will sometimes sit in a tripod but she always falls out of it after a couple of seconds.
Campbell loves standing up. She probably just likes to see what’s going on around her!
We haven’t gotten a lot better about tummy time, but we try to do it when we remember. Campbell doesn’t hate it and will tolerate it for about 5 minutes. She can roll over but I don’t think she always remembers to!
Campbell loves her feet! She is kind of obsessed with them. I am glad she find them so entertaining. Maybe she will win the dance team’s “most flexible” award just like mommy!
Campbell is still sleeping pretty well. She goes to bed at about 8 and wakes up between 7 and 8. I usually feed her before I go to bed at about 11 but lately I have been skipping that feeding. Most of the time she wakes up at about 5 when I skip her dream feed, but she has slept the whole night through a couple of times.
We are also experimenting with swaddles and sleep sacks. She really likes to be swaddled but it is SO HOT here that I am trying to transition her to the sleep sack. Right now she is swaddled at night and during her mid day two hour nap but the other two naps are in a sleep sack. She is doing pretty well! I’m hoping to have her in just a sleep sack by 6 months. I also tried swaddling with one arm out but she doesn’t suck on her fingers like Sam did, so what’s the point?
She is really working on her fine motor skills. She loves grabbing toys (or anything else) and putting them in her mouth.
Campbell is such a smiley, happy girl. She almost never fusses except when she is tired and even then it’s pretty minimal. We are so happy to have her in our lives!
Ben has been in charge of putting Sam to bed since he was about 6 months old. After reading a few books, he always sings Sam a few songs. And since Ben has an exceptionally low tolerance for “kids” songs, he always just sings his personal favorites for Sam. Lately, this has included a lot of Radiohead. Consequently his favorite song right now is “No Surprises” by Radiohead. Sam sings it all the time and requests that we play it on repeat. We caught these super cute videos for your enjoyment. And if you aren’t familiar with the original, click here).
Last Tuesday, Sam got his first dental checkup — every kid’s dream.
I took the afternoon off and accompanied him to Arlington Pediatric Dentistry, where they clearly know how to make a two (and a half!) year old comfortable: a TV on the ceiling of the exam room playing nothing but cartoons, and GQ-quality sunglasses for the patient.
Sam was excited for his visit, and seemed happy the whole time we were there, though he was a little apprehensive about all the new equipment at first — which included a buzzy toothbrush, a fluoride applicator, and dental floss.
The practice’s staff was extremely friendly and kid-oriented, and Sam did a great job of answering their questions and following their instructions — even the unusual ones, like “don’t bite down, my fingers are still in there!”
Half an hour after Sam first walked in, he walked out again with a bag full of new toothbrushes, toothpaste, and big boy dental floss.
It was a great visit: sparkling clean teeth and an overall clean bill of health.
